For varying reasons, Single Black Male is one of my favorite blogs to read. During the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month, SBM asked the question “Are Black Men Obsessed With Latina’s?” While the article has valid points, I feel the need to add a few additional points. Some of the things written contain many half-truths, but I approach the subject from a different angle. Women often ask their male friends, “Why do guys love [insert sexual activity here] when it comes to the bedroom?” The response we give women range from “I don’t know we just do, why do you love shoes?” to a blank stare as if you were a Martian from a different planet. I hate to tell you ladies, one of the biggest reasons we don’t call you, is because you’re not memorable. You may think you’re memorable, or that you should be the person every guy flocks to; but the truth my hurt more than you would like it to. Who cares if you have great legs, large breasts, and a killer figure; if there’s no sustenance to it all, who cares? Think to the dates you’ve enjoyed yourself and had a great time and everything seemed to be going well. At the end of the date he promises to call, and never does. Why? In some recent conversations on Twitter, It became clear that I should highlight the reasons men do not call. One of the first reasons is possibly the most obvious, we live hectic lifestyles. That’s not to say women don’t live busy and hectic lives, but this post isn’t about the reasons women don’t call.
Often, when I’ve not called a woman, it was often due to the clutter and chaos in my life. I didn’t intentionally mean not to call her, but if I had to choose between working to pay the bills or calling a woman, she’s going to have to wait. Women are told, men always cheat! Men are told we are cheaters and can’t help ourselves. Additionally, we are encouraged to cheat, often reminded that we’re lacking without multiple women hanging off of our body. The truth is everyone cheats: men, women, lions, dolphins, etc. Women always ask “Why do men cheat?” As if they are completely innocent. If a woman cheats, there was a reason for it, he was disrespectful to her, wasn’t doing his job in bed, or was an asshole. If a man cheats, it’s because he’s a man. In reality, men cheat for the very same reasons women cheat. It’s not a man or woman thing, it’s a human thing. Not everyone is faithful.
Men don’t cheat because we’re seeking sex from anyone with two legs, it’s because there’s opportunity and access. Some of the rationale for cheating comes from the images we’re feed by mainstream media in today’s over sexualized world. Those ideas are merely suggestions, as there are plenty of other suggestions that recommend living a wonderful, monogamous life. The root of why we cheat really boils down to a few basic reasons, there may be something missing in a relationship, we may feel unsatisfied, or we were never ready to be in a committed relationship. One question women often ask is “why do men text instead of call?” Women tend to see this as a sign of laziness on the guy’s part. Men see texting as an easier and more efficient way to communicate. Often we do not understand the difference between texting and calling. We believe we can convey the same message thru text as well as voice. We don’t understand the emotional connection often made with a phone call.
