Dating Thru Twitter

My OkCupid profile isn’t going so well. After two weeks of being revived I’m not getting responses to messages sent out. Some of this is my fault and the approaches I’ve taken to online dating. I’ve found it interesting that I’m drawing more interest thru my Twitter account as SCG than my actual dating profile. Come to think of it, I’ve had more success dating with my real Twitter accounts than any online dating site. This raises a set of interesting questions, such as what online dating means in today’s social media world?
Many of my friends have dated thru MySpace, Facebook, WoW and Second Life. What about Twitter? When you tweet your revealing a bit about your life, who you are, or what you’re doing. Essentially the background information about you and your personality is revealed for the world to see. Instead of saying “I like U2” in a designated section on an OkCupid profile, a person would tweet “I just went to a U2 concert and it was amazing! I LOVE Bono!” This can begin a conversation with another U2 fan, which can branch out into conversations about favorite music which can lead to asking someone out on a date. Thru Twitter we display more than just our likes and preferences; our personality and attitude is also conveyed. In many cases our tweets about our preferences begin conversations with strangers but also may provide interesting dating results.
It’s still interesting that I’ve had on more dates due to Twitter than OkCupid, Facebook, Match.com, and eHarmony combined. Either I’m a minger (thank @KB_in_NYC for this term) or just somewhat attractive but a really charming fellow.

it is a shame that none of the twitter based dating sites really flew off the ground. They are all there just not as great as they could be :) nice post.
You make such a good point. I closed all my online dating profiles because it just wasn’t working for me, but on Twitter I have found some really great people who I would like to get to know better.
Great post!
