Life Lessons To Learn From the 2010 – 2011 NBA Finals

NBA Larry O'Brien Championship TItle

Congrats to the Dallas Mavericks for winning their first NBA title, ever. This years NBA finals was one of the best in years. As an avid sports fan, I believe there are life lessons that can be taken away from major sporting events. Many lessons can be extrapolated from the 2010 – 2011 NBA Finals, I’m going to focus on five. [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

The Fickle: A Quick Look Into The Modern World of Dating [NSFW]

USA Character Project: The Fickle

Over the last few years, the USA Network has run a project, that celebrates the different “characters” in our lives. The USA Character Project is “an ongoing artistic initiative committed to celebrating America’s characters”, and this summer celebrates them through a series of several short films. One of them, is a quick look into the modern world of dating from the woman’s point of view. The Fickle, is a short film about one woman’s attempt to find the right guy, through twelve poor romantic encounters, all displayed through the pace of one morning.

The short film is a creative look into the hangups that tend to end romance, and creatively shot as each partner interweaves throughout the a continuous shot of her morning. There are some things that go on, that I would never believe. Be warned, there is a male butt, in a thong, shot, and possibly some other scenes you don’t want your co-workers to see or hear. Check out the video below or on the USA CHaracter Project’s page. [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

2011 Stanley Cup Begin Today

This is one of the stranger periods in sports for me. Two of the four major sports begin their championship series at the same time. Yesterday it was the NBA, and today it’s the NHL! I never understood how, or why hockey plays until June, being that it’s a winter sport and we’re now in Summer, but the Stanley Cup begins today. This year the Boston Bruins, and the Vancouver Canucks go at it. As a fan of everything New York, I can’t root for the Bruins, and Hockey is a Canadian sport, so it makes sense that a Canadian team should rule supreme. Boston is a touch cookie to crack, even though the Canucks seem are the best team in hockey. If I were a betting man, I’m going to say the Canucks in 5.

NBA Finals Begin Tonight – Heat or Mavs?

2011 NBA Finals between the Heat and the Mavs

Tonight begins the 2010 – 2011 NBA Finals. This years favorite to win the title, the Miami Heat, are the Eastern Conference representative, but they are also the most hated team in the world (primarily due to LeBron). The underdog, is the perennial underdog, lead by Dirk Nowitzki (whose been brilliant this post season) and Jason Kidd. This Heat/Mavs matchup is a rematch of the 2006 finals, where Dwayne Wade carried the Heat on his back, and won 4 straight against the Mavs, after being down 2 – 0. This season it’s a much different story. I’ve been very wrong this post season when it comes to making picks, but as a Knicks fan, there’s no way I can cheer for the Heat. I’m thinking this series may go to 7 games, with Dirk winning his first title.

Playoff Season is Upon Us

NBA Playoff Logo

Mid-April is the only time of the year, where two of the major four sports begin their post-season. The NHL began their playoff’s earlier in the week, and the NBA playoff’s begin this weekend. This season, I have a rooting interests in both sports, both the Rangers and Knicks are playoff teams. While I don’t expect either to reach their conference finals, Madison Square Garden will be buzzing with post-season play.

I couldn’t name all the teams in the chase for the Stanley Cup, but I do know last year’s champions are in the race. History does indicate that the chance for a repeat title isn’t high, but that doesn’t mean the Blackhawks will make a good playoff push. If I had to choose a team to win this year’s Stanley’s Cup, it would be the Bruins. While I’m not a fan of anything Boston, the Bruins have been a quietly good team. In hockey, that’s usually a recipe for success. On the basketball side, neither the Heat or the Celtics aren’t reaching the finals. Neither are the Lakers. If I had to choose this year’s matchup, it would be Chicago (as much as it pains me to say that), and the Spurs. Watch out for the Magic, Knicks, and Denver, those three teams are very dangerous and will cause an upset, or two.

Have Your Bracket Ready?

NCAA Basketball Championship March Madness Bracket

NCAA March Madness is the best collegiate sport tournament to date (the BCS can suck it!). Yesterday, 64 teams were selected for a showdown to determine who is going to be the 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Champion! There’s plenty of office, gambling and betting pools centered around the selection of teams to the Final Four and who will win it all. While everyone still upset about the selection of UAB and VCU into the tournament, you should pay more attention to possible bracket busters. I’m not going to pretend that I’ watch college basketball enough to make an informed pick, but ESPN does a pretty good job of breaking down the division match ups (East Region, West Region, Southeast Region, Southwest Region).

While I don’t have my entire bracket filled out, there are some things I’m sure of: [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

Weekend Watching: The Oscars

Oscars Statue

It’s hard to ignore this weekends grand event, The Oscars. As someone who’s an amateur film critic, The Oscars is the signature awards show. The Oscars has many elements, and many women are going to pay attention the outfits of the the red carpet. I, for one, am more interested in the winners for the show, and wonder if the hosts will use Ricky Gervais’ comedic suggestions. The beauty of the Oscars, is you get to choose who will and why. So here are my winners of the top 5 categories. [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

We Dare: Swinger Parties With Your Wii

Video games and sex isn’t a new concept. We all have played that Dead or Alive beach volleyball game. Reputable game developer, Ubisoft, is pushing the envelop a bit further. We Dare is a “Sexy Party Game” that invites players to kiss, spank, and even strip. The point of the game, invite a group of friends together and see what happens. This takes the term “playing with the Wii” to a different level. I wonder how many people are going to grab this game, and try it with their “friends”?

The game is real, and slated for an European release later this year. For more information, check out Kotaku’s coverage of the game.

Weekend Watching: The NBA All-Star Weekend or The Daytona 500?

Photo of a car crossing the finish line at the Daytona 500

There are Two big sporting events happen this weekend. The NBA All-Star Weekend begins Friday evening ending with Sunday’s All-Star Game, and the NASCAR season begins with the running of the Daytona 500. All-Star weekend is truly about the slam dunk contest, which features this year’s dunking sensation Blake Griffin. On the other hand this years Daytona 500 is very important. Sunday marks the 10th year anniversary since the death of Dale Earnhardt, Sr, at the very same track. Daytona has also received a major upgrade, as it’s been widened and repaved. Both are big sporting events, but I’m more of an NBA fan than a racing fan. The All-Star game will grab my attention (and hopefully good Knicks news will also emminate from the event) more than cars that only turn left. Where will your attention be?

It’s Marvel Baby! Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Released Today!

The’re certain video games that gets guys excited, and Marvel vs. Capcom (MvC for short) is one of those games. The next version of the franchise was released today, and many guys are salivating or running away from their controllers. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a fast paced, fighting game where you select characters from the Marvel or Capcom franchise and land 100 hit combos on your opponent. This means you can play with a team of Mega-Man, Wolverine, and Cyclops to light the screen up with an Ultra Super attack, making your opponent feel your pain as the hit meter rises in the 100′s.

So why mention Marvel vs. Capcom? Well, throughout the week there’s going to be many guy nights centered around this game (I know of at least 3 48-hour gaming parties), so if I go missing for a day, you’ll know where I am. For the readers, who are also gamers and have gotten an early release, I want to know which team combination are you enjoying now?
