Dating in New York City is warfare. Guys need to arm themselves against the many negative perceptions, such as:
- men only care about sex,
- are going to act like jerks, and
- aren’t ready for commitments.
The only ammunition men are given to combat these poor perceptions are magazines with half-naked women on the covers, books that tell us to disrespect women in-order to gain their affection, and porn. This is like begin handed muskets to fight a war, when the opponent has rocket launchers.
When you compare the plethora of books, articles, and blogs, most of them are written by women, about men. There’s also a slant on the dating advice that’s favors women, more than men. Women have a vast amount of resources in discussing and getting help for their dating life, all while being reminded of the negative male examples. It seems that no matter what a guy does, he’s fighting against the extreme perceptions of the jerks on Tool Academy, and not that of a real guy.
For the average guy, suck in the middle, it seems like a loosing battle.
Single City Guy was created out of this frustration by the continued negative perceptions of men and the lack of sensible dating advice for them. Created by an anonymous, at the time, late-twenties Brooklynite, who has suffered from “Nice Guy Syndrome”; Single City Guy was a way to help bridge the gap that existed for men, while providing a male voice in the void of dating blogs.
Male dating material seems to fall into two categories: unrealistic advice that’s based on imaginary portrayals of men, or techniques that turn men into the jerks women often complain about. Breaking these molds, Single City Guy is an honest look at the single lifestyle, from the male prospective. Written for both men and women, the website provides a place of discussion, advice, lessons, and descriptions of personal experiences. The goal is to offer a source of discussion about the issues that effect both men and women about dating, city life, and the things that interest men.
Single City Guy is the handbook men were never given, and the prospective women often seek.
