Know Your Boundaries

The boundaries of a soccer field

Dating is a very exiting process. You’ve met someone whom you share similar interests and have great conversations. It could be that the two of you are a perfect match and meant for each other. This sort of excitement and anticipation is thrilling, and at times, quite addictive. This doesn’t mean there are wedding bells in the future, but you’re on a good path to meeting someone great. This doesn’t mean you should, start talking about marriage on the first date. In most cases, if you begin discussing your wedding plans you’ve made a grave mistake. You’ve gone beyond the normal dating boundaries. While you may have thought you were being open and honest, you were entering a place of uncomfortability and creepiness. Committing yourself to someone you’ve just met, isn’t considered normal dating behavior.  [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

Guys: Facial Hair Isn’t A Bad Thing

Close up of a 5 o'clock shadow

Men are told two things, when it comes to facial hair. First, women love a smooth face, therefore you must learn how to shave, and shave every day; secondly, women love a man who looks like a man, and that means he must have facial hair. The compromise of the two is the 5 o’clock shadow, which is a style that’s difficult for many of us to keep up. Last week, I started a poll to discuss this very issue; but the results came back a bit more mixed than I anticipated. It seems there isn’t a clear-cut answer to the question of facial hair, although more women (49% of those who have responded to the poll) seem to appreciate it than not (27% of responses), but not just any facial hair does the trick. You Saw Your Ex, Now What?

A woman, waiting for the N Train at 59th Street in NYC

Managing a post-relationship is a hard process. The way the breakup was handled with the ex, influences the reaction you’ll receive when you see them again. Trust me, you will see your ex again, especially when you least expect it.

Living in New York, you must be ready to meet any number of random people at any given time or situation. This includes the people from your previous relationships. In a sense, for me, the last few weeks were a series of extremes. On one hand, I was reaching out to a woman who I dated, got along bey well with, only to lose communication. In every way, romantically or not, I was making trying to interject myself into her life. Because things ended well, the conversation went well. On the other hand, I crossed paths with Rule Breaker on the train recently, and while things ended amicably, the reaction received was far from that. [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

How Do You Handle The Breakup And The Ex?

Post relationship management is a tricky and difficult process, especially in NYC. In the city, you’re bound to meet up with your past at unexpected moments and situations. Usually, before the breakup happens, decisions are made, and must be changed based on the new status of the relationship. Look at Hugh Hefner whom was dumped by his fiancé, days before the wedding. The cover of the June 2011 issue of playbow now sports a “Runaway Bride” stick on the cover, the same cover set to introduce the new Ms. Hefner to the world. That’s a bold way to handle a breakup.

Breakups suck, regardless of how much they may need to happen. The way the breakup is handled will also effect how things proceed in the future with your ex. What will happen when when you see them again? If you two are friendly, or enemies the answer to this question are completely different. Potentially, there’s a lot of the feelings that arise from the now, completed, relationship. [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

Miss USA 2011: A Science Geek!

Add Alyssa Campenella, Miss California and now Miss USA 2011, to the list of women guys really want to date. Not only is she gorgeous, but she’s also smart. Geek smart. She also believes in evolution and met the person she’s currently dating on Twitter. Well there goes trying to date her (but hope for the rest of the single guys on Twitter). While the new Miss USA 2011, claims to be a science geek, it’s surprising that she’s only one of two contestants who believe in evolution. Wow.

She’s definatly an upgrade from one of the former Miss California contestants.

Opportunity Missed

A man, hunched over a chair in missed opporunity

Last week, I reminisced about a woman, who I had a series of great dates with, only to find myself interrupted by work. It’s a not so tragic story, but common in the New York dating life. The biggest kick in the pants was that the both of us got along quite well, only to walk away with nothing, not even a friendship is appalling.

It was suggested that I should reach out to her, with some of you using my own words against me. In a sense, it was crowd source dating. Before attempting to reestablish the lost connection, I had already figured she had forgotten about me and had moved on with her life. To my surprise, there was an exclamation mark at the end of my name as a response from the text I sent. [Read The Rest Of This Entry]

Facial Hair On Men, Yay or Nay?

This month, I’m starting with a new experiment. I’m fond of my facial hair, but, have decided for a month to walk around clean-shaven. I’m doing this to see if it provides better dating opportunities, or if I’m looked at by women different. As I embark on this venture, I wanted to ask women, what are your opinions on facial hair. Yay? or Nay?
