5 Reasons to Date A Geek

Geek glasses on top a stack of books

Geeks (and nerds) have always been seen as undateable urchins. While being a geek is more popular now than the past, they remain overlooked as great dating potentials. I recently heard someone say “Why would any woman date a geek?” My answer is, why wouldn’t they? Today, this isn’t only a male problem, has also become a female problem, as an increasing number of women geeks are learning the painful lessons of being a geek; you’re not always considered prime dating material. Contrary to popular belief, geeks make great dates, and there’s many reasons to date one. Here are five good reasons.

Passionate About What They Love

Geeks aren’t only smart people, but a person who is in love and embraces a particular hobby or interest. While some geeks may fall into the typical “comic book guy” stereotype, most of them aren’t drooling over the newest issue of Captain America or debating the authenticity of the Watchman Movie compared to the graphic novel. There are literacy geeks, opera geeks, even molecular science geeks (but they are generally called scientists). For a geek, their hobby is their passion, and in many cases, their profession. If geeks are passionate about the things they love, imagine how passionate they could be about you.

Intelligent and Interesting

Geeks are known for being smart. That’s a part of the geek mystic. Not every geek is a rocket scientist, but they have a level of intelligence that’s unlike most other people. Geeks are known as seekers of knowledge and often have many random facts bouncing in their head. It’s not just about their intelligence, but how they associate that intelligence. I have a friend whose a geek and a graphic designer. While he’s smart, his passion for graphic design, and intelligence often leads me to learning new things and exploring new, and interesting worlds. Contrary to popular belief, there’s nothing boring about a geek!

Attention to Detail

I’ve discovered geeks pay attention to the smallest details. Often this shows up in movie critiques and reviews, but it’s an admirable quality. The smallest, important things are often what makes us the happiest in a relationship. Fights often begin due to an overlooked detail. Geeks are good at noticing the slight changes, paying attention to them, and addressing them.

Generally Resourceful

Geeks often rely on their skill set to carry out a task. This means being very self-reliant, or finding other resources and tools. Instead of leaving a problem unresolved, geeks are known for finding or creating a resolutions. Often this comes in the form of fixing an electronic, but it carries over to life and working with others. Finding resolutions to problems, is a geek way of life.

Creative In Their Own Ways

Geeks aren’t people who spend too much time in front of a computer. In reality, geeks are very creative. In today’s age, we’ve seen more geeky marriage proposals born from the creative mind of a geek. There’s a lot of effort and passion put into these things. Every geek has their own sense of creativity, many by either creating or doing something that’s unique to their own passions and hobbies.

There is something really sexy and awesome about a guy telling you exactly how the chemicals in your brain are working to make you feel high on him (and him high on you).

The guy I’m currently dating could be called a geek or a dork, I suppose, but I really like that about him. I love the fact that he’s so very intellectual and am finding that more of a turn on than I’ve ever found it to be before. He’s into his comics, fantasy fiction, reads everything under the sun, and enjoys writing more than I do and I’ve found that I’m really into him for those reasons. :) Thanks for posting this story!
